Hardware and software are two important components in any computer, electronic, or digital device. Both are dependent on each other and cannot manage without each other. Both are separate from each other as well as dependent on each other.

The main difference between hardware and software is that the hardware is always in tangible form and the software is in invisible form and a set of instructions without which the computer cannot operate.

Hardware is a computer system in which physical devices are directly involved in the functionality of data processing or communication functions, such as central processing units, peripheral devices, and memory.

 

Software is the code and instructions that control the performance and operation of hardware, such as Microsoft Windows and Internet browsers.

 

Both hardware and software are an integral part of all digital electronic devices such as computers, cellular systems, satellite systems, and so on. These computer-related terms work in a combination to create computer functions. The hardware of the parts of the computer that are physically present and touchable is the software that runs the hardware.

 

No doubt, both elements have their own distinct identity and function-ability. 

 

Therefore, to launch a system, it is imperative that both hardware and software support each other to run a program.

 

Hardware: All the things in a computer that have a size and that we can touch. Such as the keyboard, mouse monitor and all the parts in the computer are all hardware.

 

Software: Software means computer instructions or information. Anything that can be  collected electronically is software. It cannot be touched. Different applications or programs are software

 

Everything a computer does depends on both hardware and software.

What is the hardware?

Hardware is the mechanical equipment that is needed to perform an activity or task. It can be in different shapes with different uses. Take household hardware, tools like keys, locks, containers, wires, chains are examples of household hardware. 

 

Digital screens, electronic chips, and transistors, capacitors are examples of digital and electronic components. Hard disk, processor, motherboard, RAM, CD-ROM, and power supply is a type of computer hardware. The list is endless.

 

Some are used individually as hardware keys and some as necessary external tools or programs. The key always works individually. You do not need any other tools to perform the key function. Computer hardware always requires software to manage properly. It cannot work independently. Input, storage, processing, control, and output devices in a computer are types of hardware.

 

The hardware is always in a fixed shape which means we can see and touch it.

What is software?

Software is a set of instructions on a computing device or operating system that directs it to perform certain activities. Software is an indomitable form which means we cannot see them and the computer can easily read the instructions received from the software.

 

Hardware is like the head and software is like the memory on the computer. We can see the head but not the memory.

The main difference

• The hardware is available in physical and physical form as the software is available in invisible form as we cannot see the software.
• The weight of the hardware is in the weightless state of the software. Weight only disk or readable   media where software is stored.
• The hardware is in physical shape so it needs a physical space while the software does not need any physical space on a computer table or any other place. Its location is only on a hard disk or other storage media.
• When installing new hardware, installing new software called updating or replacing the old one is called upgrading.
• Examples of hardware include CD-ROM, RAM, monitor, er, GPU, scanner, modem, etc. Examples of software include Quick books, Internet Explorer, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Media Players, etc.

• Viruses always attack software, not hardware.  

How many types of computer hardware and what are they?

Let's try to know how many parts are in the hardware of the computer. Usually the hardware components that are outside are called input device and output device. And the important hardware parts inside the computer, which are not visible from the outside, are called "internal hardware components".

 

We will learn about these 3 types of computer components below. Here we will talk about both computer and laptop devices as there is no difference between the two, only all the components in a laptop are small and together.

So let's not know which input device-

Input device

The input device tells those hardware components to send data to any computer that you control or are served by.

 

The most commonly used  input devices in a computer are the mouse and keyboard. However, there are many more input devices that are used to send data.

Output device

 

The output device is called the hardware peripherals that receive the data from the computer. These hardware components are the opposite of the input device which means the input device sends the data to the computer and the output device receives the data from the computer.

 

In general, monitors and printers are most commonly used in computers among the output devices. However, there are many more output devices that are used to receive data.

Software is usually divided into two parts-

• Systems Software
• Application Software
  

What is system software?

Systems software is designed to manage or control the computer's hardware and to provide a platform to run application software.

The system software is needed to run hardware and other application software later. It is mandatory to have system software for a computer to work.

 

The system software controls the different parts of the hardware and its use or function. It is usually used by all types of general-purpose software users.

What is application software?

Application software is used to perform different tasks on the computer. Users use this software to perform a specific task or to complete a special task. Users usually use application software as per their need.

 

Application software is a set of one or more programs called application software.

 

No doubt, hardware, and software have different functions, structures, and looks, but it is a fact that both are incompatible without each other. The physical appearance of the computer components means that the hardware is effective only when the appropriate software is installed.

 

Similarly to run software programs, you may be running this software, which requires hardware. Therefore, apart from all the differences, hardware and software are essential to each other.
